Student Video Case Studies

Video case studies of current Higher Education students

The WON has been speaking to 5 inspirational students from our institutions who have each shared their story of accessing Higher Education. Each talk about overcoming a different potential barrier and we really hope you can use these to inspire your own students.

Elizabeth explains how she overcame the sometimes difficult transition of settling into university life and how Bath Spa University gave her the chance to recreate herself. Elizabeth also talks about her reasons for choosing to study at Bath Spa University and why the course she chose was the perfect fit!

Holly explains how completing a BTEC Extended Diploma enabled her to study Social Sciences at the University of Bath and why this was the right pathway for her. Holly also discusses how she has been helped to write in a new ‘academic’ style, the opportunities that university provides and how applying for a bursary helps with living costs.

Originally wanting to study Law, Lee tells us how the UCAS Clearing process allowed him to study Social Policy at the University of Bristol after missing out on one of his A Level grades. Lee also discusses how the Pathways to Law programme prepared him for a degree, the skills he has developed during his studies and the financial support he has received from the university.

Rachelle faced difficult personal circumstances which meant she missed out on the A Level grades required to study Social Work at degree level. Determined to find an alternative pathway into university, Rachelle tells us how the Access to Higher Education course at Bath College allowed her to achieve her goal of studying Social Work at the University of Bath. Rachelle also discusses financial support received through bursaries and scholarships whilst also describing amazing opportunities offered at university.

UCW student Georgia discusses the benefits of a Foundation Degree and why she ‘topped up’ to a full degree. Georgia also explains some of the challenges she has faced as a student from a low-income family on her journey into higher education and the support she has received.

Students from our partner institutions provide valuable and personal advice to those thinking of applying for university.
